Day 2

Subject: You gotta get this right, [firstname]

Hi [firstname],

Today I want to cover the most important step on the road to becoming an influencer: Choosing your niche.

When it comes to being an influencer, it (literally) doesn't pay to be a generalist. Experts are experts in a particular subject. You can't be an expert on everything, so if you want to gain large following and get brands to pay you handsomely to endorse their products or services, you must get specific.

When it comes to choosing a niche, it's best to concentrate on something you already know a lot about. This is important for several reasons. First of all, you need to sound like you know what you're talking about. This might seem obvious, but you'd be surprised at the number of wannabe influencers who fill pages with meaningless waffle or stuff they've read on other web pages but don't really understand.

People can spot this a mile off!

You need to live and breathe your subject. You need to know both the obvious stuff and the obscure facts.

But your niche is more than just your own knowledge – it also needs to be something that a lot of other people are interested in, too. You might be the world authority on (say) medieval barn building techniques, but if your following is limited to a handful of academics scattered across the globe, you're not going to get many endorsements!

Likewise, if you pick a niche what's over-saturated, and where experts are ten a penny, you'll have a hard time standing out from the crowd.

Oftentimes it's best to drill down and find a sub-niche of a larger niche. For example, instead of targeting the entire health and fitness niche, try targeting health and fitness for seniors with diabetes – that kind of thing.

Take your time and do your homework. Don't skimp on this step. Everything you do next on your journey to becoming an influencer depends on getting this step right.

Warmly,

[Your Name]
